The Angel Investors Challenge is kicking off its 2011 edition this Thursday (September 22, at 6pm) with a launch cocktail at the Centre d’entreprises et d’innovation de Montréal (CEIM) in Old Montreal. The Challenge is a partnership between Anges Québec and the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Montreal (JCCM) where young entrepreneurs compete for a chance to receive mentorship and training from angels and ultimately for an opportunity to present their businesses directly to Anges Québec.
The launch event is meant mostly as an informal networking cocktail for Montreal-area entrepreneurs, investors and others interested in start-ups, but it will also feature a few speakers, including François Gilbert, President and CEO of Anges Québec, and Yifeng Song, CEO and co-founder of Modasuite. Modasuite secured a round of funding from Anges Québec, Real Ventures and Bolidea after having been one of last year’s finalists.
The 2010 edition introduced an entirely new format from previous years by placing greater
emphasis on value add for entrepreneurs in the form of a structured training program for a cohort of the most promising projects and teams. The initiative was widely recognized by Quebec’s entrepreneur and angel community for its value and innovative characteristics. This year’s edition builds on last year’s success by introducing further training opportunities as well as mentorship by serial entrepreneurs for the finalists. Further details will be unveiled at the launch.
