Happy New Year 2013! This is my first post since May. Time flies fast!
The topics I wanted to explore and share were numerous and varied, but I didn’t have enough time to share them as I used to since the inception of this blog in May 2010. To maximize my time, I turned to Twitter to share information and interesting subjects. I enjoy the concise, direct and real-time communication style of the medium. You can follow me @ Ludovic_Dumas where I continue to be a regular contributor.
What kept me busy over the last months?
Lots! During spring and early summer, I got involved and trained to participate in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. This is a 250km bike ride between Montreal and Quebec City to raise funds. This was my first experience and it was as remarkable adventure. I have great memories. The course, the organization, the atmosphere, and the mood of the people were great throughout the journey.
Subsequently, I admit taking the time to enjoy a summer that was exceptional in terms of the weather. This was a very short break before getting into the organization of the first edition of Casino Against Cancer which took place on September 21 in Montreal. In this colorful evening, a net total of $ 80,000 was raised for the purpose of creating a fund for the creation of a research chair in immunotherapy, which is considered one of the most promising avenues in the field of oncology research. It was quite a success and I’m looking forward to seeing our dynamic team in the coming months to organize the second edition that will be even more stunning than the first – details will be announced shortly.
New Year’s Resolutions Ideas for 2013
The beginning of the year is an opportune time for many to start new goals. If you are looking for ideas or inspiration, I strongly encourage you to consider volunteering. What a great way to get involved in the community, meet interesting people and make a difference!
Volunteering is a very rewarding way for me to get involved, learn and meet new people while having fun. Whether with the Montreal Cancer Institute, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Museum of Fine Arts, Audacity or any other organization, there is certainly an organization that can leverage your interests and talents. If you can’t find anything of interest, which would be surprising considering the needs and the emergence of junior philanthropist clubs, why not create your own?
If you are looking for inspiration to challenge yourself on a personal level, I highly recommend you take a moment to listen to a podcast of Mark Divine, founder of CrossFit and former Navy Seal. He shares a lot of information on motivation, mental toughness, teamwork and achievement. He is quite inspiring. I share his thoughts on the importance of winning in one’s head before beginning anything.
All the best in 2013,
